Class Description

High resolution 3D sculpting has been dominated by Zbrush artists for over a decade, but the release of Blender 2.8 has leveled the playing field. FX Dojo presents: Digital Sculpting in Blender - an introduction to shaping virtual clay using state-of-the-art technology.

Learn workflows for multiple body parts

Sometimes your character is too detailed for your computer to handle the poly count. This class offers various solutions to maintain your original concept while optimizing your workflow.

The Mask Brush allows artists to sculpt with a stencil

Students will encounter several scenarios where masking can help speed up defining features. Starting with sculpting stitches on a football, the exercises will progress to detailing eyes, ears, and other parts of an original character.

Practice and master the most important brushes

Blender offers a wide variety of brushes but sculpting skill cannot be substituted by anything other than discipline and work ethic. Practice using the bare minimum and when the time is right, the instructor will introduce new tools to solve specific high-level problems.

Use a tablet for ultimate control and detail

Sculpting with a mouse is possible but not ideal. This course provides non-stop drills using a standard, low-cost tablet to build strong fundamentals which can be universally applied to any other software, such as Zbrush, Photoshop, and Maya.

Matcap and Materials

Different models look best with different materials. Switch views to show off your details or simply to polish hard to see areas of your model.

FX Dojo is committed to combining art and technology in a well-rounded educational environment. All teachers are well versed in traditional and digital art, in order to provide students with relevant support inside and outside the classroom.
