CLASS DESCRIPTION
Thank you for visiting FX Dojo, the only facility in San Diego where kids can learn Computer Animation and Game Design using a combination of OPEN SOURCE software. These three-week workshops will introduce young minds to Blender, and Krita, two of the most powerful FREE software apps for artists today. Class size is limited to only 8 students, so reserve your spot now!
Young artists love Krita because it’s easy to pick up a tablet and start drawing! After a few simple lessons, students will be creating their own 2D animated gifs and sharing them with friends. The simple interface resembles many universally accepted tools, making Krita a no-cost alternative to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Animate (aka Flash). Lessons consist of drawing exercises as well as photo manipulation with this open source favorite.
Blender is the 3D powerhouse that is taking over the professional marketplace. However, kids and teens have been learning Blender at FX Dojo since 2012. For many creative students, “kid-friendly” applications are a handicap, limiting their imagination in exchange for a gentler learning curve. At FX Dojo, kids are respected as advanced thinkers, and encouraged to explore their unlimited potential, using a state-of-the-art tool. Young minds respond well to the idea of total freedom, and Blender provides the perfect virtual environment for infinite possibilites.
USE THIS CLASS AS A JUMPSTART, SO YOU CAN LEARN MORE ON YOUR OWN
There are so many Blender and Krita tutorials on Youtube! But it’s much easier to take advantage of them if you have strong foundation of basics. Students will be able to speed through Youtube videos in fast forward after just the first class. Recognizing interfaces and understanding layouts helps you become a self-sufficient digital artist.
BUILD CONFIDENCE AND DIGITAL PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
Learning Digital Art is about more than just clicking on buttons, it’s about how to overcome barriers. Once you learn how to solve the most common digital problems, being faced with an intermediate one isn’t as scary. At FX Dojo, students continuously apply what they’ve learned to reach new ground… and these universal skills carry over to other aspects of life.

I put a lot of time developing the Intro to Animation Series because I want everyone’s initial experience to be positive and fun.
