20 Jan Captain America Tribute Art Show: Artists Salute
A POLITICAL CHARACTER
Initially named “Super American”, Captain America was a conscious political creation by writer Joe Simon in 1940. He and artist Jack Kirby were both morally repulsed by the actions of Nazi Germany and used their medium of comics as a form of expression.
Before becoming Captain America, Steve Rogers was a frail, malnourished art student specializing in Illustration. Disturbed by the rise of the Third Reich he quit school to enlist in the U.S. Army. Physically unfit to be a soldier, Roger’s other attributes made him a good candidate to be a guinea pig for “Super Soldier Serum”.
Captain America is equipped with super strength and agility.
Used by the United States as a weapon during WWII, Captain America’s foes include Nazis, Neo-Nazis, Fascists, and international as well as domestic terrorists.
