04 Feb Blender Sculpt – starts Tuesday Feb 20
FX Dojo presents the only 5-week Digital Sculpting workshop in San Diego! Students will learn how to use Blender’s powerful Sculpt Mode to create high resolution models. This state-of-the-art workflow is the open source alternative to the popular Zbrush/Maya pipeline professionals have been using for the past decade. Prior experience with Blender is required.
Use traditional maquette sculpting tools
Blender offers an array of digital tools which mimic traditional sculpting methods. Easily transition between tools with keyboard commands and using a tablet. For example, use Clay Strips for hair but then Crease to define the hairline. Scrape and afterwards hold SHIFT to Smooth. Through a carefully designed curriculum of exercises, Instructor Otto Lai teaches how and when to use each brush. These short exercises are easy to remember and reproduce at home when you practice outside of class.
Topology and the Retopologizing process
High resolution sculpting is fun to play with, but in order to successfully generate professional models, students must understand Topology. Knowing how to best organize loops and faces will give you better results during the sculpting process. After sculpting, models usually need to undergo a “rebuilding” process known as retopologizing. Blender has various workflows that make this process a lot easier than other commercial software.
Creative details show originality
Digital sculpting was previously limited to professionals working at large game companies or independent artists who could afford expensive software. Blender provides creative minded people with a competitive alternative to design your original characters. This class will train you to develop a strong fundamental understanding of digital sculpting and then the rest is up to you! Every extra detail you include in your model will make it that much more special. Put in the time make your ideas stand out!
